Apple managed to increase iPhone shipments in a declining Southeast Asia market
While smartphone shipments in five key Southeast Asian markets fell YoY in Q1 2023, Apple managed to increase iPhone shipments.

Apple is the only company to see growth in phone shipments in a declining Southeast Asia market in Q1 2023.
According to Counterpoint Research's Southeast Asia Monthly Smartphone Channel Share Tracker, the five key markets in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia) saw phone shipments declined by 13% YoY due to low demand and a seasonal drop.
While Samsung and Vivo saw shipments decreased by 16% and 26% respectively, Apple managed to increase iPhone shipments by 18%. iPhone sales in Vietnam and Indonesia are stated to be robust.
Senior analyst Glen Cardoza believes high-to-premium phone buyers are not affected by economic factors such as high inflation and slowing economy. The next few quarters could see an improvement in consumer sentiment, which is likely to boost phone sales.
