To keep thin, the rumoured iPhone 17 Slim could come with just one camera

Would you buy a phone if it only had one camera?

I know it’s early but the word on the street is that Apple will revamp its iPhone lineup dramatically next year.

According to these rumours, Apple will take the iPhone 17 Plus out of its lineup and replace it with an ultra-thin version that many are referring to as the “iPhone 17 Slim”.

This comes from famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who says the Plus model accounts for about 5% to 10% of iPhone sales. This means demand is relatively low and that the other models adequately cover customers’ needs.

Consequently, Apple is keen to explore options beyond its existing lineup, hence a new ultra-thin version. According to Kuo, this new Slim model will “focus on design over hardware specifications”.

To that end, he believes that Apple will outfit this model with just a single wide camera to keep it as thin as possible. He also thinks this slim model will come with a 6.6-inch display and that it will powered by an A19 chip (the Pro models will have the A19 Pro).

Despite the lower specs, a recent rumour said the iPhone 17 Slim will replace the Pro Max as the most expensive iPhone in the lineup.

It’s hard to know what to make of these rumours considering we are over a year away from the launch of the iPhone 17 lineup. That said, it’s no secret that the Plus model has traditionally been the poorest-selling model in the lineup and it makes sense to discontinue it and introduce something entirely new in its place.

However, having just a single camera would be an unusual and bold decision, especially if it is going to be the most expensive iPhone in the lineup – as is the decision to go with a less powerful processor. Perhaps it won't be the lineup's most expensive phone. This is one of those rumours that we are just going to have to wait and see.
