Apple might be using a super telephoto camera on the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

According to Digital Chat Station, Apple is planning to equip the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with periscope lens. And to further differentiate the two models, Apple is tipped to use a super telephoto periscope camera on the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Though it wasn't mentioned what focal length the iPhone 16 Pro Max's super telephoto would have, it's worth mentioning that super telephoto cameras typically have a focal length of over 300mm.

As a point of comparison, the telephoto camera on the iPhone 14 Pro has a focal length that's equivalent to 77mm. If the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a super telephoto periscope camera with a focal length of equivalent to 300mm, the optical zoom capability will receive a significant boost.

As for this year's iPhones, only the iPhone 15 Pro Max is tipped to receive a periscope lens. The periscope lens is rumoured to deliver optical zoom up to 5x, which would mean a focal length of around 120mm. With flagship Android phones having between 5x and 10x optical zoom capability, it's definitely time for the Apple iPhone to catch up.
