Aside from giving iOS a much-needed visual overhaul, Apple might also want the phone's operating system to complement its 20th-anniversary iPhone.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claimed the aesthetics of iOS 26 will "pair nicely" with the design of the 20th-anniversary iPhone. Gurman added that iOS 26 will adopt a "digital glass" theme with increased emphasis on light and transparency.

The 20th-anniversary iPhone, due in 2027 and internally known as "Glasswing," is expected to feature curved glass edges, ultra-slim bezels, and an edge-to-edge display with no cutouts.

Gurman wrote in April that Apple plans to have "a major shake-up" for the iPhone lineup in 2027 with the introduction of a foldable iPhone and a "bold new Pro model". This is corroborated by The Information, which suggested that an iPhone with an all-screen design might launch in 2027.
