Earlier in June, VentureBeat reported that Apple would be reserving the iPhone 7 moniker for next year and suggested that this year's iPhone may continue to use the "6" branding. Well, it seems that Apple has reversed its decision.

According to Japanese blog MacOtakara, "reliable sources" claim that Apple is sticking to its traditional naming scheme to avoid confusion among consumers. If the upcoming iPhones continue to don the "6s" moniker, consumers may get confused with the different models.

The Japanese blog also reiterated that plans for a third model - the iPhone 7 Pro - have been ditched. Nikkei Asian Review reported last week that Apple made a last minute decision to cancel the iPhone 7 Pro. Having said that, MacOtakara states that the upcoming devices will be known as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
