Apple has officially announced the launch date for its first Apple store in Malaysia in the heart of Kuala Lumpur's international financial district. Located at L1.40 of The Exchange TRX, the store will open on 22 June at 10 AM and will be the third country besides Singapore and Thailand to have a physical Apple store in Southeast Asia.
Currently, Malaysian consumers can only purchase Apple products from authorised retailers such as Machines and Switch, or from electronic stores such as Courts and Harvey Norman. Unlike retailers, official Apple Stores are typically larger than resellers and offer a wider range of products for users to experience first-hand.
Expect there to be large crowds on the day of opening.
In addition to selling products, Apple stores also feature unique activities, such as the Today At Apple sessions that teach users how to get more out of their Apple devices. These sessions cover a variety of topics, from photography to art and design and even coding. The company also offers sessions catered to accessibility.
When visiting an official Apple store, visitors can also get in touch with the company’s technical support service branch, the Genius Bar. Here, customers can receive assistance from setting up newly bought devices, recovering Apple IDs, and repairing faulty hardware. Previously, Apple users would have to rely on authorised service providers or send their devices abroad for repairs. Having an official Apple presence will help streamline the process. Though there was no official mention of a Genius Bar in the Malaysian store, one will likely be present.
The opening of Malaysia's first Apple Store represents a significant moment for the company's retail push in Southeast Asia. It will be interesting to see if the launch could spur more physical stores to be opened in the region.
Meanwhile, Singaporeans planning their work or holiday plans can consider penning yet another place to visit when they are in KL. Readers can visit the official Malaysia Apple store website for more information here.
