Apple's future iPhone may be able to repair itself when you are not using it.
According to a patent application filed in 2014, Apple's self-healing iPhone can fix several issues that consumers typically face. For example, the self-healing iPhone can automatically detect water intrusion and play a special tone through the speaker in a loud area to get rid of the water.
Another possible scenario is dead pixels on the display. The self-healing iPhone can cycle through screen diagnostics when you are asleep at night. Camera and mobile connectivity are two other common problems that can be fixed without the user's intervention. Below is an abstract of the patent by Apple:
A method and system for performing maintenance, repair and recalibration functions on a portable electronic device so as to be undetected by a user. The portable electronic device senses when a user is not in close proximity to the device or when the device is otherwise in an environment which will make the performance of the functions undetectable by a user."
Self-healing technology in mobile phones is actually not new; LG introduced a "self-healing" technology on the rear cover of the G Flex and G Flex 2 which is actually a protective film that removes scratches within minutes.
