Apple could sell fewer iPhone 7s this year than the iPhone 6s

Despite launching new iPhone models later this year, Apple is forecasted to sell fewer iPhones this year due to falling demand.

Apple is expected to sell even lesser iPhone 7 units than the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

As the saying goes, what goes up must come down. After several quarters of record-breaking sales, Apple's iPhone shipments may decline further towards the end of the year even with the launch of the iPhone 7.

KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple will continue to experience year-on-year decline in iPhone shipments and these numbers may even fall below market expectations. Total shipments for this year is likely to fall below 200 million units, no thanks to falling replacement rates in developed markets and slow pick-up in emerging markets.

While Kuo expects one model of the iPhone 7 to sport a dual-camera setup, he believes the iPhone 7 lineup is unlikely to boost sales numbers. Kuo's claims echoed a similar report by research firm Gartner, which estimates that global smartphone sales will grow single-digit for the first time this year.
