Apple could be developing a foldable display for the iPhone
Apple applies for a patent on foldable display which could be for the iPhone.
Following last month's rumor about Apple and LG working on a foldable iPhone, the U.S Patent and Trademark Office published a patent application by the iPhone maker for a foldable display.
The patent application describes how an electronic device could have a flexible portion that allows it to be folded and how the flexible display might have a bending region. The foldable display can be "opened and closed like a book". The patent application also covers all display types including LCD, OLED and microLED.
Other phone makers have been rumored to be working on similar projects. Samsung is said to have restarted the development of inward-folding smartphones. LG filed a patent application in 2015 for a foldable smartphone. Microsoft is trying to patent a 2-in-1 foldable device which can function as a phone and a tablet.
