Apple could be building its own battery-saving chip for the iPhone
Apple may be ditching another supplier, Dialog which currently builds the power management integrated circuits (PMIC) for the iPhone.

Apple may ditch another component supplier in the near future as it seeks more control over the core technologies that go into the iPhone.
According to Reuters, an industry analyst from Bankhaus Lampe claims that Apple is working on its own battery-saving chip for the iPhone. Currently, Dialog Semiconductor is supplying its PMIC for the iPhone. Apple is expected to replace Dialog's PMIC as early as 2019.
The analyst cited information from a source that Apple was hiring Dialog's engineers in Munich to join its team of 80 staff. Based on analysts' estimation, more than 70% of Dialog's sales last year came from Apple. If true, the latest development will be a huge blow to Dialog's business and talent drain. Shares of Dialog already dropped 36% to a seven-month low following this news.
Earlier last week, Apple ended a longstanding partnership with Imagination Technologies and aims to replace the latter's PowerVR GPU with one of its own within the next two years.
