Apple and Nokia sign long-term 5G patent license agreement

Nokia will receive payments from Apple under the new patent license agreement starting in January 2024.

Apple and Nokia announced they have signed a new patent cross-license agreement.

The new multi-year patent license agreement, which will replace the existing license that is due to expire at the end of the year, covers Nokia's fundamental inventions in 5G and other technologies.

While the terms of the agreement remain confidential between the two companies, Nokia would receive payments from Apple from January 2024.

Since 2000, Nokia has invested more than €140 billion in R&D and its patent portfolio consists of about 20,000 patent families. Some of these patent families include over 5,500 patents declared essential to 5G. Earlier this year, Samsung also signed a 5G patent license agreement with Nokia.
