Apple and Gemalto Rumored to be Working on Integrated SIM Card

From the usual SIM, to microSIM and now a possible rumor that points to both Apple and SIM card maker Gemalto in collaboration to create a special SIM card that's integrated into the iPhone.

Gemalto is in the business of making smart chips, and most importantly, SIM cards for your mobile devices. And it hit our radar just a few moments ago when rumors were floating on the web that pointed its possible collaboration with Apple. Word has it that the Cupertino-based company is approaching Gemalto to create a special SIM card that would be integrated into the iPhone, which will be activated via Apple's App Store.

GigaOM - Sources inside European carriers have reported that Apple has been working with SIM-card manufacturer Gemalto to create a special SIM card that would allow consumers in Europe to buy a phone via the web or at the Apple Store and get the phones working using Apple’s App Store.

While this might seem to be very unlikely, it is Apple that we're talking about. This is a company that strives to have absolute control from start to end, keeping its services closely guarded under their control. We won't be surprised if this deal goes through, but honestly, we hope it won't. Check out the full story over here.
