The creator of Android, Andy Rubin, is building a new high-end smartphone with his new company Essential Products, and today, he shared the first sneak peek at the mysterious phone.

Rubin started Essential Products after leaving Google in 2014, with the company focused on tablets, smartphones and smarthome IoT devices. Essential's flagship phone will apparently serve as the foundation for a lineup of connected products. Based on the image Rubin shared, the phone appears to have a bezel-less design similar in style to the Xiaomi Mi Mix, with its edge-to-edge 6.4-inch display. Rubin is also apparently working on a proprietary version of Apple's 3D Touch display.

Essential Products' flagship smartphone is expected to be unveiled in mid-2017.
