The Android Developers blog announced that Android 12's first developers' preview is ready to roll.
Majority of the blog's announcement concerns app developers and phone makers. It lists a host of new development tools available that makes shipping Android 12 features and apps easier. For instance, apps testing for devs have more toggle-able options, several API and transcoding upgrades for easier file conversion, and safer exporting by default.
The blog post also hints at other toys that Android users can look forward to. For instance, the announcement said that notifications would be more responsive due to Android blocking a certain mechanic while also encouraging Android 12 app developers to create apps with the new guidelines in mind.
Another noteworthy mention is the optimisation of Android 12 for unconventional devices. There's documentation on optimising apps for Android tablets, foldable gadgets, and even Android 12 preview for Android TVs.
Android 12 app and feature developers can start work by flashing a system image to Google Pixel phones (3 / 3 XL, Pixel 3a / 3a XL, Pixel 4 / 4 XL, Pixel 4a / 4a 5G, or Pixel 5). Also, Android Beta isn't yet available for Android 12. If you must know, we've captured the projected timeline below.
