At Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit 2025, the company kicked off its announcements with an address from its CEO and President, Cristiano Amon.
Among the various forward-looking statements he shared, a crucial expectation was that communications technology will develop rapidly due to the rise of AI experiences. Namely, Qualcomm expects pre-commercialisation 6G network devices to arrive by 2028.
“As you think about the evolution of AI itself... you have a collection of models that work as one system... these models run on the edge, and it’s no longer talking about different use cases for cloud and edge (computing). (AI) Models are already designed to be in both.
“The difference between 5G and 6G, is besides increasing speeds, broadband, and the amount of data, but 6G also increases perception and sensor data because of the role AI plays on the edge. We have been working on this for a while, and it’s sooner than you think,” said Cristiano, as he proceeds to unveil Qualcomm’s expected timeline towards 6G network products.
