Omdia’s latest research data shows that Apple achieved its highest-ever Q3 shipments as the global smartphone market grew 3%.

Fueled by early demand for its strong iPhone 17 series, Apple was able to grow its iPhone shipments by 4% and secure a market share of 18%. Omdia attributes it to Apple’s “effective portfolio segmentation,” where the base iPhone 17 offers double the base storage at the same starting price as before, and the redesigned Pro models continue to be very popular.

Samsung retained its lead for the third consecutive quarter with a 19% market share, supported by steady demand for its Galaxy A series and foldable phones. Completing the top five were Xiaomi in third (14%), Transsion in fourth (9%), and Vivo in fifth (9%).

Beyond the major phone launches in Q3, Omdia states that the growth in the global smartphone market was driven by strong replacement demand and vendors preparing their inventories ahead of a busy Q4.

Omdia believes that phone vendors must focus on subscription services, accessories, bundles, and ecosystem upsells to grow revenue and differentiate themselves.
