Samsung’s latest smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and S8+, are two of the best devices you can buy right now, with record launch figures and glowing reviews.
The smartphones are packed with great features, but there are loads of other features and options hidden deep within the settings menus that you may not know about yet.
Multi Window
Make use of the S8's super long screen by enabling split screen Multi Window. To enable this setting, go to Settings -> Advanced Features -> Multi Window and toggle the Use Recents button option on.
After you've enabled Multi Window you can long press the recents button in any supported app to open up a split screen mode. The first app will automatically fill the top part of the screen, and the second app the bottom.
Floating camera button
Go into the Camera settings menu and you'll find an option for a floating shutter button. Enable it to reveal a shutter button you can move anywhere on the screen. Tap it to take a picture.
Skip the lock screen
You can customize the on screen navigation buttons by going to Settings -> Display -> Navigation Bar, but did you know there's also an option here that lets you unlock your phone and jump straight to the home screen? The lock screen doesn't really do anything, so this is a handy time saver. There's also an option in here that lets you customize the sensitivity of the virtual Home Button.
Enhance your audio
Delve deep into the S8's audio settings by going to Settings -> Sounds and Vibration -> Sound Quality and Effects and you'll find some interesting audio tweaks: UHQ audio upscaling, equalizer settings, and a surprisingly decent tube amp simulator.
Note that these options are only available when you have earphones plugged in.
Isolate your music from your notifications
If you don't want annoying notification sounds blasting out through your Bluetooth speakers while you're streaming music you can choose to separate them with the Separate App Sound feature. This lets you stream music exclusively to your speakers, and have any other sounds, like incoming notifications, played through the device only. Activate this by going to Settings -> Sounds and Vibration -> Separate App Sound.
Get faster download speeds with Download Booster
If you ever need to download something really fast, you can turn on the S8's Download Booster feature, which combines both your WiFi and LTE connections at the same time to increase your download speed. You can turn this on by going to Settings -> Connections -> More Connection Settings and toggling Download Booster on. Just don't forget to turn it off when you're done because using LTE for downloads can quickly chew through your monthly data allowance.
Play audio on two different Bluetooth devices simultaneously
The S8 and S8+ are the first smartphones on the market with Bluetooth 5.0 support, which lets them stream music to two different Bluetooth devices simultaneously.
To enable Dual Audio for Bluetooth devices head to Settings -> Connections -> Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is on, and then tap on the three dot menu button. Then tap on Dual Audio and toggle it on.
Pin anything to the always on display
The always on display can be used to pin handy reminders, web links or even pictures to the screen. To do this, open the content you want to pin and tap the three dot menu in the top right. Select Share or Send (it differs depending on the app you're using) and then select Always on Display from the screen that slides into view, then tap Pin to always on display.
