Huawei P40 Pro+ in pictures: Faster and farther!

Big, bigger, biggest - Huawei adds to the P40 lineup with the all-singing, all-dancing P40 Pro+, starring 5G and an eyebrow-raising 10x lossless periscope zoom module!

Unlike the P40 and P40 Pro, the back of the Pro+ is made of a baked-on ceramic powder that adds durability, but also some weight - about 17 grams. You won't mistake it for glass; it has a more satiny lustre to it, like a floor tile (obviously.)

Thankfully, the Pro+ is not "thick", unlike some recent long-zoom, high-megapixel phones, clocking in at a respectable 9mm (especially given its periscope lens assembly). The double-curved display edges at both the top and bottom also help to reduce its visual profile.

Most things haven't changed from the vanilla P40 Pro - wireless charging, the lack of a headphone jack, and IP68 dust and water resistance.

But what has changed is pretty groundbreaking, and that's the addition of a lossless 10x (yes!) periscope zoom to the already-impressive trio of rear cameras (if you're not familiar with these, they're an optically-stabilised 50MP wide using Huawei's Ultra Vision RYYB sensor, a 40MP ultrawide, and a stabilised short telephoto that's reduced to 3x here, down from 5x in the P40 Pro)...

So, how well does it work? We'll reserve final judgement for our review as the firmware on this unit is a "test version", but here's an image shot by the (normal) wide camera for reference...

The huge camera punch-hole on the front, thankfully, means selfies are backed by imaging muscle. There's a 32MP main sensor with autofocus, as well as a TOF (Time-Of-Flight) sensor for better bokeh, assisted by an IR illuminator for face unlock!

Of course, all these camera chops would be nothing without a great display, and the P40 Pro Plus seems pretty competent in this area with its 6.58-inch OLED panel. As we've said, this curves at both the sides and the top and bottom.
