Let's talk about the OnePlus 8 Pro first. This 5G-capable flagship device by OnePlus packs a top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, with three colours available at launch. The set we received was in the glossy-back Onyx Black, one of the traditional OnePlus colours.
The OnePlus 8 Pro features a stunning panel. It's a 6.78-inch AMOLED display at 3,168 x 1,440 pixels resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. OnePlus also said that the OnePlus 8 Pro has a 240Hz touch sampling rate, giving the OnePlus 8 Pro its blazingly-fast responsiveness of just under 25 milliseconds.
The OnePlus 8 Pro quad-camera system features a 48-megapixel primary shooter supported by a 1/1.4-inch Sony IMX689 Quad Bayer sensor. The second camera is a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide Camera using a 1/2-inch Sony IMX586 sensor. The third camera ( is an 8-megapixel Hybrid Zoom camera offering up to 30x digital zoom with OIS, and the fourth (bottom-most) camera is a 5-megapixel colour filter camera with a photochrome filter.
The front camera is no slouch. Hiding inside the pin-hole is a 16-megapixel shooter supported by a Sony IMX471 sensor with 1.0µm pixel size and f/2.45 aperture. It has electronic image stabilisation (EIS) and it uses a fixed focus lens.
The rest of the phone packs a whole host of flagship tier features - the body is rated at IP68 water-proofing, it supports 30W Warp Charging (a fast-charging standard by OnePlus), it comes with a USB Type-C port that supports USB 3.1 Gen 1, and it features a dual nano-SIM slot. Like past OnePlus phones, it has a really solid Silent switch just above the Power/Lock button.
An 8GB RAM + 128GB storage OnePlus 8 Pro starts at S$1,298. More information on its purchase availability here.
Next up is the OnePlus 8 in Glacial Green in a frosted matte glass rear. It's a real pity that we didn't get the exclusive OnePlus 8 colour, Interstellar Glow, but we'll make do with this equally stunning colourway. Like the Pro version, the OnePlus 8 also packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, making it 5G-capable and definitely worthy of flagship-tier acclaim, just by its hardware alone.
The OnePlus 8 has a 6.55-inch, 90Hz AMOLED display rated at 2,400 x 1,080 pixels resolution with HDR10 and HDR10+ certification. What makes it flagship-tier is also its colour accuracy, which shares the same rating as the OnePlus 8 Pro's (~0.4 JNCD), with colour accuracy is imperceptible to human eye. You literally don't need to pay for a premium flagship when the regular flagship offers the same colour reproduction capabilities.
On the rear, the OnePlus 8's primary camera is a 48-megapixel shooter supported by a Sony IMX586 with 0.8µm pixel size, f/1.75 aperture, and OIS + EIS support. The Ultra Wide Angle Lens is a 16-megapixel shooter with field of view of 116-degrees, and a f/2.2 aperture. Finally, the Macro Lens is 2-megapixels, with the capability to shoot up close.
The OnePlus 8's front camera is the same shooter found on the Pro version, a 16-megapixel lens supported by a Sony IMX471 sensor. It's also laid out in the same manner, up in the top left of a display squirreled away in a pin-hole format.
Another key difference is the battery capacity between both devices. With the OnePlus 8 being smaller and lighter (180g), it packs a 4,300mAh battery. The slightly larger and heavier (199g) OnePlus 8 Pro offers a slightly larger battery capacity of 4,510mAh. However, battery capacity isn't everything since the Pro version uses a more demanding panel, thanks to its higher pixels resolution count!
The OnePlus 8 starts at S$998 for an 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model, making it one of the lowest-priced smartphones touting a current-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset. For more information about the device and its availability in Singapore, don't forget to check out our article here.
