Apple rolls out Tap to Pay on iPhone for merchants in Singapore

Merchants only need a compatible iPhone paired with a partner-enabled iOS app to get started.

More than three years after launching the feature in the US, Apple is finally bringing Tap to Pay on iPhone to Singapore.

Tap to Pay allows businesses of any size to accept in-person contactless payments from credit cards and debit cards using nothing more than an iPhone (iPhone XS or later running the latest iOS version) and a partner-enabled iOS app. This means businesses can get started quickly without investing in additional hardware or traditional payment terminals.

Merchants operating in pop-up markets, street fairs, or local hawker stalls will find Tap to Pay on iPhone especially useful as it lets them accept payments anywhere.

The feature also maintains the strong privacy and security protections found in Apple Pay. All transactions are encrypted and processed using the Secure Element, ensuring that neither Apple nor the merchant knows what customers are buying or who is making the purchase. Card numbers and transaction details are not stored on the device or on Apple’s servers.

In Singapore, the first payment platforms to support Tap to Pay on iPhone include Adyen, Fiuu, HitPay, Revolut, Stripe, and Zoho, with Grab expected to join early next year.
