It seems that Sharp’s latest feature phone is a dream handset for caregivers looking after their young or elderly charges. It’s also ideal for workplace safety officers who need an extra layer of assurance in their high-risk environment.
Plus, it’s possible to do all that with a tasteful design. We’re talking about this Kazushige Miyake-designed smartphone, the Sharp AQUOS wish5.
Military-grade vibrations
The Sharp AQUOS wish5 offers a unique vibration-activated SOS security feature. It triggers a loud alarm and automatically calls pre-registered contacts, sending their location information via SMS. All the AQUOS wish5 owner needs to do is shake the phone for help.

This feature activates even if the phone is stored in a bag. By simply shaking their carry-on, they can also trigger AQUOS wish5’s alarm.
Adding to its handy alarm feature, the phone’s durability ratings. It is certified MIL-STD-810H, which makes it durable enough for use by the US Department of Defense.

It’s also rated IPX5/8/9/IP6X, which means it is explicitly certified for low-pressure jets of water, continuous immersion, high-pressure and high-temperature sprays, and is completely dust-tight. In any situation, you wouldn’t even need to check if the phone is okay.
Guard your body, guard your mind
Also on the AQUOS wish5 is an AI-powered phone assistant which analyses call content to block suspicious calls based on “past cases of fraud”, said Sharp.

Messages left on voicemail can also be converted into text, allowing the content to be reviewed later.
It’s still an Android phone

The phone has a 6.6-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, suitable for modern online content and mobile games. Inside is a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. Additionally, the phone supports expandable storage, accepting microSD cards up to 2TB.
Accompanying all that are functional shooters: there’s a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth camera on the rear, along with an 8MP selfie camera in front.
The 5,000mAh battery is supported with “Intelligent Charging”, but the exact speeds aren’t specified. It’s also an Android 15 phone, and Sharp promises four years of security updates for the AQUOS wish5 devices.
