I did a double-take when I received news that Apple and Issey Miyake have teamed up to create a bag that carries your iPhone called the iPhone Pocket.
Essentially, it’s a knitted bag designed to hold your iPhone. Apple says its “singular 3D-knitted construction” enables it to accommodate any iPhone.
You can tie the iPhone Pocket around a bag. Pictured here is Issey Miyake’s Bao Bao bag.
The design is certainly eye-catching and is said to be inspired by the concept of “a piece of cloth” and the pleats that made the brand famous.
Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director of Miyake Design Studio, said: “iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way.’”
Issey Miyake has a bit of history with Apple. Miyake, the founder of the brand, was friends with Steve Jobs and made Jobs’ signature black turtleneck top.
The iPhone Pocket comes in eight bright colours.
There are two versions, one with a shorter strap and another that’s longer. The shorter version can be held in the hand, hung over the arm, or tied onto bags. The longer version can be worn directly on the body.
The iPhone Pocket is made in Japan and will be available in eight colours: lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, sapphire, cinnamon, and black.
Availability and pricing
