Is reverse wireless charging finally coming to the iPhone?

This is not the first time we’ve heard a rumour like this.

Apple could finally be ready to introduce reverse wireless charging to the iPhone.

Tipster Fixed Focus Digital shared that Apple has tested reverse wireless charging for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro, though it remains unclear whether the feature will be enabled at launch.

This marks the second report in recent months pointing to reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 17 Pro. Earlier this year, Instant Digital claimed Apple is testing a 7.5W implementation, which should be sufficient to wirelessly charge AirPods or an Apple Watch.

Rumours of reverse wireless charging on the iPhone go back many years. Reports dating back to 2019 suggested the iPhone 11 might support it. Apple’s FCC filing for the iPhone 12 in 2020 revealed a hidden, inactive reverse wireless charging feature on the device.

In 2023, 9to5Mac reported that Apple planned to debut the feature on the iPhone 14 Pro, but scrapped it due to engineering delays. While iPhone users continue to wait, Android phones have offered reverse wireless charging for years.
