Apple Support app may soon have an AI assistant feature.
MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris found references of the AI assistant feature in Apple’s code. The AI assistant, reportedly called Support Assistant, is believed to be the first layer of support for Apple users.
Support Assistant is said to use a chat interface to handle service requests from users, and leverage “generative models” to provide responses “related to certain Apple products and services”.
It is also believed to support document uploads, which suggests that users can share images or files related to their service requests.
As with most generative AI models, Apple includes a disclaimer that Support Assistant may produce “incorrect, misleading, incomplete, offensive or harmful outputs”.
Interestingly, Apple also mentions it collaborates with partners to power Support Assistant. This opens up the possibility of a ChatGPT-powered AI assistant, as Apple is reportedly finalizing a deal with OpenAI.
While there is no official launch date, Apple’s upcoming September iPhone event could be a likely platform for unveiling Support Assistant.
