LG updates its ultralight gram notebooks with Alder Lake processors

LG has just announced that its new updated 2022 lineup of gram notebooks. There five models in total and they are the:

  • gram 17
  • gram 16
  • gram 14
  • gram 16 2-in-1
  • gram 14 2-in-1

In terms of design, it seems like not much has changed. These new models look similar to their predecessors. They are also roughly the same size and weight.

The gram 14 and 16 are all about 16.9mm thick, while the gram 17 is slightly chunkier at 17.7mm. Weight starts at just 999g for the gram 14 and go up to 1.4kg for the gram 16 2-in-1.

In terms of display, all five models are getting IPS LCD displays – no OLED, sadly. The 14-inch models will get displays with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, whereas the 16 and 17 inch models will have displays that have a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. 

The big news is that all five models will feature Intel's newest Alder Lake processors. Customers will be able to choose between a Core i5 or more powerful Core i7.

Additionally, all models will get 16GB of fast dual-channel LPDDR5 memory and PCIe 4.0 SSDs. 

Battery life has always been a strong suit of the gram notebooks and even the most compact gram 14 and gram 14 2-in-1 will come with 72Wh batteries. The 16 and 17 inch grams will get 80Wh batteries.

As for connectivity, all notebook will get two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and USB-A ports.

In addition to the gram notebooks, LG is also introducing the +view, a 16-inch IPS LCD portable display that has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and connects via USB-C.

 

Availability and pricing

The new LG gram notebooks will be available from the end of May with prices starting at S$1,899 for the gram 14. The most expensive model, unsurprisingly, is the gram 17 with a Core i7 processor and 1TB SSD that costs S$2,899. The LG +view portable display is S$499.
