Two days ago, computing giant Gigabyte announced that their Aorus Gen4 7000s SSDs are now updated and optimised to work with the PlayStation 5. Specifically, for those who might have forgotten about it, Sony's next-gen console is able to accommodate an optional M.2 SSD upgrade for storage purposes, but with many AAA games taking up hundreds of gigabytes worth of space, it doesn't seem like getting spare SSDs is going to stay "optional" for very long.

Apart from storage capacity, which of course will have to be accounted for depending on individual user circumstances, you should also aim for an SSD that offers a solid read speed. According to Gigabyte, the newly optimised Aorus SSDs feature storage capacities of up to 2TB and read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s, which puts them on par with some of the best in the market. Additionally, they also feature the PCIe 4.0 controllers with advanced 3D-TLC NAND Flash, providing a significant performance boost over the previous generation of PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs.

As for heat dissipation (a recommended requirement for PS5), Gigabyte has got that nailed down as well. The SSD sport an aluminium thermal interface (which comes in different sizes) as well as a double-sided thermal pad with Nanocarbon coating, ensuring that your consoles stay cool and funky even during the most intense gaming sessions.

Last but not least, given that the Aorus Gen4 7000s SSDs have already been in circulation since early this year, the company has provided a downloadable tool that existing owners can use to update the SSD's firmware that's also available on their website

As for capacities and availability, they can be had in either 1TB or 2TB variants, going on Gigabyte’s official local Shopee site for S$389 and S$699 respectively
