Arlo announces new Pro 4 and Ultra 2 wire-free security cameras (Updated)

Arlo Technologies has just updated its Pro and Ultra security camera series with the new Arlo Pro 4 and Ultra 2.
Not to be confused with the Arlo Ultra that shoots in 4K, the Arlo Pro 4, like the Pro 3 it succeeded, shoots at 2K resolution. However, with the additional ‘HDR’ picture quality, users can expect to see more details with the new camera. The wide-angle lens continues to have a 160-degree field of view.
The wire-free Pro 4 also has an integrated spotlight (which turns on whenever motion is detected) with colour night vision, supports two-way audio and connects directly to the network over Wi-Fi. It’s weather resistant, so you can use it as an outdoor camera; and a full battery charge can last up to six months. Features like local storage recording, cross-triggering of other cameras and enhanced range can be had when you connect the Pro 4 to a compatible Arlo SmartHub or base station.
Going up a tier, the Ultra 2 is the new 4K system that replaces the original Ultra. Versus the Pro 4, it has an even wider 180-degree lens and supports two-way audio with wind and noise reduction. With 4K and HDR, Arlo says you’ll still get sharp details when you zoom into the image. The camera can even track and focus on an object as it moves.
Like the Pro 4, the Ultra 2 has an integrated spotlight to scare off intruders and a built-in siren that can be set to trigger automatically when motion or audio is detected or manually through the Arlo mobile app. Colour night vision is also onboard, which means you can see low-light footage in colour instead of black-and-white.
Despite its higher resolution and improved range, Arlo says the weather-resistant Ultra 2’s rechargeable battery can power the camera for up to six months on one charge. Arlo’s figure is based on 4,000 seconds of use per month and 30 seconds per stream, so your mileage may vary.
Finally, the Ultra 2 works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit and IFTTT. HomeKit support isn’t listed for the Pro 4, but considering the Pro 3 supports HomeKit, I expect this to be enabled down the road with a firmware update.
At the moment, we’ve no details about the new cameras’ local availability. Here are their prices in the U.S.:
- Pro 4: US$199.99 (~S$272)
- Pro 4 (3-camera kit): US$549.99 (~S$748)
- Ultra 2: US$299.99 (~S$408)
- Ultra 2 (2-camera kit): US$599.99 (~S$816)
- Ultra 2 (4-camera kit): US$899.99 (~S$1,224)

Starting at an RRP of S$1,199 for a two-camera kit, S$1,599 for a three-camera kit and S$499 for an Ultra 2 add-on camera, the Arlo Ultra 2 is now available in Singapore through their official stores on Lazada, Shopee, and Amazon Singapore. Do note that the two and three camera kits include the needed hub. Plus, the Ultra 2 camera comes with a 3 months Arlo Smart Elite subscription. This allows video storage to Arlo's cloud.
We still don't have any pricing or availability details for the Arlo Pro 4 but we will update this article accordingly when we receive more information.
