The sales and collection of Apple iPhone 13 series phones started today, with much celebration and fanfare from local telcos expressing their appreciation to their customers.

Over at Singtel, the iPhone 13 series collection began as early as 8AM at its flagship Comcentre store, with appointment-only customers streaming in to collect their new devices while adhering to safe distancing measures.

The first customer was Mr Patrick Chong, 54, an IT professional who pre-ordered at launch and collected a 256GB iPhone 13 Pro Max in Sierra Blue. Mr Chong said that it was his first time being the first in line, and was not expecting to arrive early given the appointed collection time.

The long-time Pro Max user was most excited about enjoying the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s ProMotion display, offering 120Hz adaptive refresh rate on his new phone. Mr Chong also received a complimentary 9th-generation iPad as a gift for being early, courtesy of Singtel.

Based on its pre-orders, Singtel said that its customers have taken well to the new iPhone colours, such as Pink (for iPhone 13 series) and Sierra Blue (for iPhone 13 Pro series).

"Close to half of our customers chose the iPhone 13 Pro Max, with the iPhone 13 Pro Max Silver 1TB selling out almost immediately. Newly introduced colours, Sierra Blue for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pink for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini, were the most popular choices among customers, continuing a trend we observed last year. The majority of customers have opted for XO Plus plans which offer free 5G access and generous data bundles so that they can enjoy the full features of the next-generation iPhone on our 5G network, which was recently recognised as Singapore’s fastest 5G network with speeds of more than 1.2Gbps," said Ms Gan Siok Hoon, Managing Director of Mobile Marketing & Sales, Singtel.

These 5G-supported devices can tap into Singtel’s existing 5G network, currently covering more than two-thirds of Singapore’s postal codes, including newly-added heartland areas and indoor locations like shopping malls.

Singtel also showcased its consumer 5G capabilities at its Comcentre outlet, with a 4K livestream of S.E.A Aquarium using its 5G network, and a chance to experience 5G-powered remote virtual racing with Formula Square, its 5G partner located in Sentosa.

M1 started its iPhone 13 series collection at its Tampines Mall outlet. First in line at the orange camp was Mr Haw, when the collection started at 8AM. The customer ordered a 128GB iPhone Pro Max in Gold.

M1 also gifted a hamper to the lucky first customer - containing a variety of mobile accessories, ranging from a charging dock, charging cables, phone holders, and ring holders.

“I am delighted to be the first M1 customer collecting the phone this morning. It certainly feels good to win the hamper, and thanks to the M1 team for this lovely gesture,” said Mr. Haw.

M1’s 5G standalone coverage is slated to reach 75% by end-2021. It offers a 5G add-on for both its SIM-only and contract plans, with free months of 5G access tied to its iPhone 13 promotions.

StarHub took on a quieter approach at Plaza Singapura, offering a Bingo Card to its customers who’ve pre-order the 2021 iPhones. Solving the Bingo Card challenge lets StarHub users enter a lucky draw with Apple-themed prizes worth over S$5,000 in total, including an iPad Pro, Apple Watch, and Air AirTag.

StarHub also has 5G access for its consumers, intending to achieve 75% 5G standalone coverage across the island by December 2021.
