WSJ: Apple shelved plans to make a 4K TV more than a year ago
The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has shelved plans to introduce a 4K TV more than a year ago. The Cupertino-based company is said to be releasing a new version of its Apple TV set-up box alongside an Internet TV service next month at its Worldwide Developers Conference.

If you have been waiting for an Apple-branded TV to be announced, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has shattered your dream.
According to the WSJ, Apple has abandoned plans to manufacture a 4K TV over a year ago as it was unable to come up with compelling ways to set it apart from the competition. The Cupertino-based company is also said to have experimented with laser-powered transparent displays in the mid-2000s, but found the costs and image quality compromises to be too much.
The WSJ also claims that Apple will be announcing a new version of its Apple TV set-up box alongside an Internet TV service at next month's WWDC. The New York Times released a similar report earlier this month and added that there will be a new remote control.
Rumors about the Apple-branded TV begun in 2012 and speculation had not died down over the years. It didn't help that Apple's Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services, Mr Eddy Cue shared in August 2012 that an Apple-branded TV would not happen unless the company could secure major content deals.
Talks of an Apple-branded TV resurfaced in 2013 when MacRumors claimed that Apple was willing to compensate cable TV companies and TV networks to allow viewers to skip commercials in its own TV service. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also reported that year of a launch of the Apple HDTV in 2014.
