As Covid-19 continues to spread around the world and demand for masks exceeds the supply, Sharp plans to use one of its TV factories in Japan to make masks.
The TV factory, located in Kameyama, Mie prefecture, is typically used for making large LCD panels and assembling TVs. Sharp now plans to make 150,000 masks a day at the factory by the end of the month and aim to as many as 500,000 masks a day.
As the display panels need to be made in facilities with high standards of cleanliness, the TV factory is perfect for mass producing masks. Sharp has not made a decision on the pricing or distribution plans for the masks.
