Google and Samsung have started to roll out native Google Assistant support on select Samsung smart TVs via a software update.
Available in the U.S. at the moment but coming to more countries ‘soon’, this allows you to activate the voice assistant through your Samsung TV smart remote. It’s a more seamless experience than the existing method that requires you to connect the TV to an Assistant-capable device, like a Google Home speaker.
Google, in its recent blog post on new ways to enjoy Assistant:
When you press down on your remote control’s mic button, you can use your voice to ask Google to change channels, adjust the volume, control playback, open apps and all sorts of other things. Of course, you can also ask Google to do things like turn on different smart home devices or for information about the weather forecast, and you’ll get answers on your screen.
Setting up Assistant on your Samsung TV is as simple as connecting the TV with the Google Assistant app on your phone. Presently, these are the only Samsung TVs that support such native integration:
- 2020 8K and 4K QLED TVs
- 2020 Crystal UHD TVs
- 2020 Frame and Serif TVs
- 2020 Sero and Terrace TVs
