Samsung’s vice chairman and TV expert dies of heart attack at age 63

Samsung Electronics Co.’s vice chairman, Han Jong-hee, has passed on from cardiac arrest at age 63, according to various reports and Samsung’s internal memos.

Major South Korean news platform Yonhap News Agency reported that the co-CEO suffered a heart attack on Saturday (22 March 2025) and died while hospitalised. 

According to the report, Mr Han joined Samsung in 1988 as part of the TV development team. Reuters reported that Mr Han rose through the ranks and eventually became Vice Chairman and co-CEO at Samsung Electronics in 2022, in addition to being a board member. He was regarded as an expert in display technology. 

At the point of his passing, he was overseeing Samsung’s chipset business.

According to The Chosun Daily, another South Korean newspaper, Mr Han was originally scheduled to appear at a 26 March 2025 home appliance Korean event titled Welcome to Bespoke AI. The newspaper added that the keynote speaker had been replaced with another Samsung executive after the announcement of Mr Han’s sudden passing.

His funeral will take place on 27 March at Samsung Seoul Hospital.
