More Scoops on LG's Upcoming 55-inch OLED TV

LG has gone back to the drawing board for their imminent 55EM9600 OLED TV, judging by the carbon fiber back and sturdier stand which the display sports. There are murmurs of a steeper price tag too, compared to initial rumors of a US$8,000 retail price.

We brought you a number of updates on LG's imminent OLED television about a month ago, mainly on the HDTV's alleged US$8,000 price tag and its early appearance in Europe during the month of May. More recently, the 55-inch OLED screen was unveiled in the flesh at a concert hall in Monaco, the Salle des Etoiles. With it, we also managed to glean a little more info on the organic display apart from LG's talk on their 4-Color Pixel WRGB technology and additional white sub-pixel. And according to LG's newly released promotional video embedded below, the 55EM9600's "design is simply light-years ahead", which does sound a wee bit like a bold overstatement although we won't refute that OLED is here to stay.

Based on Engadget's report, the slim beauty is said to have undergone a redesign since the display's initial public appearance during CES 2012. The HDTV now sports a visibly larger and thicker stand to provide better stability to the entire unit, as well as a carbon-fiber reinforced back which enables LG to trim the OLED display's depth to 4mm (dubbed as Paper Slim, of course). All of the AV ports are assembled behind the base, except for the trio of USB slots aligned by the side for easy access. LG remains tight-lipped on the 55EM9600's specific release date, but latest rumors revolve around a heftier price point of US$10,063 and a European release date in the latter part of the year. The South Korean firm will be combining their 4-Color Pixel WRGB OLED technology with a Color Refiner filter to enhance colors and vibrancy on the 55EM9600, as opposed to Samsung's simpler RGB implementation.
