Microsoft delays Surface Hub availability, raises its price

It's now delayed to the first quarter of 2016, which means it might arrive as late as end March.

Remember the Surface Hub, Microsoft’s giant collaborative display that’s really an all-in-one PC running Windows 10? Originally slated to be available in September, the last time we saw it, that was pushed back to end of the year. As reported by ZDNet, Microsoft has delayed it yet again to the first quarter of 2016.

In addition, Microsoft is increasing the Surface Hub’s price. The 55-inch model will now be priced at US$8,999 (up from US$6,999) and the 84-inch model at US$21,999 (up from US$19,999). The new prices will be for new pre-orders; you get to keep the old prices if you’ve pre-ordered before this hike.

Mary Jo Foley over at ZDNet:

Microsoft officials are not saying much as to why they upped the prices. The official statement is the company is “finalizing our manufacturing plan with a view towards delivering the best product experience.”

“After evaluating the market opportunity and considering the unique collaboration scenarios Surface Hub offers, we believe these are the right prices to drive the business and the category forward,” according to a statement from a spokesperson.
