Watch any video on Apple TV effortlessly with VLC media player!
Remember you used to have to tediously convert your video files to one of Apple TV’s supported formats before actually watching them? Those days are now over with VLC media player now available on Apple TV. More details inside.

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen. Your favorite media player, VLC, has finally arrived on the Apple TV. If you’re already familiar with its desktop client, chances are it wouldn’t take long for you to get acquainted with its Apple TV counterpart.
Now that VLC is available on the Apple TV, no longer will you be obliged to convert all your media files to one of the Apple TV’s supported formats in order to be able to watch them, as the media player is able to read pretty much any video or audio file formats you throw at it.

Apart from being able to play local media files, VLC for Apple TV is also able to source for content that have been stored on the media servers that are connected to your local network as well, which you can then select using the remote. VideoLAN, the developers of VLC, mentioned that plans are currently underway to integrate cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive into the app, which you can expect to arrive in a future update.
If you don’t like deciphering the incessant mutterings of certain movie characters, you should be happy to know that you’re able to overlay subtitles from OpenSubtitles.org onto your movie during playback.
