SMU partners with Straits Interactive on new Data Governance Systems certificate

In order to tackle pandemic-related issues in data governance and shortages in data protection officers, Singapore Management University (SMU), in partnership with data governance company Straits Interactive, is launching its new Advanced Certificate in Data Governance Systems.

The new course comes as part of SMU Academy, the university's professional training arm, with the aim of assisting SMEs, particularly data protection officers or professionals with data protection responsibilities. The course is also a part of SMU Academy's Advanced Diploma in Data Governance and Management, along with the Advanced Certificate in Governance, Risk Management and Compliance.

The programme has six modules in total, focusing on concepts including auditing for data protection risks, data protection concepts in the mobile landscape, and managing and protecting digital records. Overall, the modules are:

• Digital Data Governance Frameworks and Standards
• Data Protection Risks and Audit Management
• Mobile Applications: Privacy by Design and Design Thinking
• Concepts and Principles of Record Management in Today's Digital Environment
• Implementing a Compliance Management System ISO37301
• Implementing the Privacy Information Management Standard ISO27701

The modules can be taken in any sequence, and the programme lasts a total of 13 weekdays, from 9 AM to 5 PM. You can find out more about the course on SMU Academy's page here, including course fees and registration dates for the different modules.

For context, this is not SMU's first collaboration with Straits Interactive; the company has also partnered with SMU Academy in other programmes dealing with data protection, including the Advanced Certificate in Data Protection Principles.
