Siemens and NVIDIA are expanding their partnership by using virtual reality (VR) and the metaverse to create digital twins for businesses to reduce their costs and speed up product design.

To enable this, the companies will connect Siemens’s digital business platform, Siemens Xcelerator, and NVIDIA’s Omniverse. The companies say that this will create an industrial metaverse with physics-based digital models from Siemens and real-time AI from NVIDIA for businesses to make decisions faster and with increased confidence.

Siemens Xcelerator is a Cloud-based platform offering an integrated portfolio of hardware, software, services and an application development platform.”

It is designed to help companies of all sizes become digital enterprises with solutions that can be personalised and adapted to fit customer and industry-specific needs.

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO, of NVIDIA, said:

The connection to Siemens Xcelerator will open NVIDIA’s Omniverse and AI ecosystem to a whole new world of industrial automation that is built using Siemens’ mechanical, electrical, software,  IoT and edge solutions.

NVIDIA’s Omniverse first spoke about 3D design and modelling in 2019. In 2022 NVIDIA released NVIDIA OVX to simulate massively complex applications across robotics, AI, industrial automation and more within the NVIDIA Omniverse.

The OVX system enabled the performance required for creating digital twins with real-world accuracy. Digital twins refers to modelling entire physical buildings, factories, cities and even the world, in a virtual environment.

Besides Siemens’s own solutions, Siemens Xcelerator will also feature those from partners and the platform will allow customers to mix and match solutions choosing what they need and when they want it.
