Razer investigates possible hack impacting its digital currency, Razer Gold

Is your Razer Gold safe? Razer confirmed that it had been alerted to a "potential breach" and is currently conducting an investigation.

The initial report of the hack was shared on Twitter by Falconfeeds.io. They tweeted that "a user in the hackers forum claims to be selling the Razer database, source code, encryption key, etc". While the authenticity of this claim remains unverified, Falconfeeds.io reminded its followers that Razer experienced a data leak in 2020, potentially referring to the inadvertent exposure of over 100,000 accounts in September that year.

The alleged hacker is demanding US$100,000 in Monero, a cryptocurrency that ensures absolute anonymity for its users. Unlike most mainstream cryptocurrencies which can be verified and traced, Monero utilizes a variety of technologies to uphold its users' privacy. It's not hard to see why this feature might appeal to cybercriminals, despite the arguments in favor of being able to track one's digital currency.

Responding to the aforementioned tweet, Razer confirmed that it had been alerted to a "potential breach" and is currently conducting an investigation.
