Pipe Lets Users Share Files with Their Friends via Facebook

Box, Dropbox and Google Drive are the many cloud storage services that let users share files with their friends. But not everyone uses these services, so with that in mind Pipe is ready to launch a file transfer service built around a Facebook app. After all, we're sure most people do use Facebook, don't they?

To get started, users will have to install the Pipe app in Facebook, select a friend you want to share the file with and drop the file into Pipe. If your friend isn't using Pipe, they will be sent an invitation to start using it. Pipe uses peer-to-peer connections, so since there's no intermediary servers not even Facebook or Pipe can view the files. And if your friend isn't online, Pipe will store the file in a locker for the next five days, though the file size limit of a locker is 100MB. But if you're sending a file to a friend online, the size limit is a generous 1GB. 

One of the best things about Pipe is you do not need to know the email addresses of your friends in order to share a file, making file-sharing an easy and convenient process. The desktop version Pipe will be launching in the next five hours so keep your eyes peeled with iOS and Android versions in the works.
