The LightStrike robot uses UV light to destroy Covid-19 virus in 2 minutes
The Lightstrike robot has been successfully tested and proven to kill the coronavirus in just two minutes with ultraviolet light.
A robot armed with ultraviolet (UV) light has been tested and proven to kill the Covid-19 virus within two minutes.
According to Nikkei Asian Review, Texas-based Xenex Disinfection Services recently conducted a successful test of its LightStrike robot where the Covid-19 virus was deactivated in just two minutes with UV light.
The LightStrike robot is said to emit wavelengths of between 200 and 315 nanometers to disinfect beds, doorknobs and other surfaces. It is also tested to be 99.99% effective in deactivating the coronavirus from N95 masks.
Japanese medical equipment maker Terumo, attained exclusive distribution rights to sell the LightStrike robots. Each robot is priced at 15 million yen (~S$200,000).
Terumo says the LightStrike robot has been deployed in 11 facilities by end of April. It also received inquiries from more than 100 medical institutions between March and April.
Similar robots are being made in Singapore to fight the Covid-19 outbreak. Made by local robotics tech firm PBA Group, more than 200 of these robots, called Sunburst UV bots, will be deployed in shopping malls and sectors in healthcare and transport by the end of the year.
