The annual Google Singapore Year in Search results have finally been released, and if you're a kaypoh (busybody) Singaporean returning from last year, welcome back. If you're new, buckle in as we look at the topics that intrigued Singaporeans this year.

"Our goal since Google Search launched has remained the same: to deliver the highest-quality information to everyone. That work is never done. We are constantly reimagining what Search can do. As Singaporeans intuitively turn to Google to stay up to date with current affairs or latest trends, we will continue to help Singaporeans find information in more natural and intuitive ways, building on our work to help people Search  through text, images and voice."

This year, sports dominated the general search rankings, thanks in no small part to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Singaporeans' love for football is clear, however, with the #1 searched query for 2024 being the UEFA Euro 2024 or the Euros as they're more commonly called among fans. Copa América ranked #7 while the #8 spot was taken up by the AFC Asian Cup, which is a little closer to home.

Of course, we can't forget about superstar Taylor Swift, who came to Singapore for her Eras Tour, with six sold-out shows. If you recall, one of the top how-to searches of 2023 was "how to buy Taylor Swift tickets", and we sure hope the results of that search query proved helpful this year!

The latest Labubu craze is solidly entrenched in Google's Year in Search history as well, making the #10 entry on the list, with hordes of fans trying to get their hands on the cute doll.

Singaporeans are also taking a clear interest in international current affairs, with the US elections, India elections and Taiwanese presidential elections all taking spots in the top 10 searches for international news this year.

Closer to home, athlete Max Maeder and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong both made the list of top searches for Singapore News as well as Local Personalities. If you #supportlocal, singer-songwriter Benjamin Kheng made it onto the list at #10, with his NDP Song Not Alone being well received by the public. The top searches for Singapore News also show that money is high on our priorities, with both CDC vouchers and the GST voucher appearing on the list.

Moving onto entertainment, another Korean TV show takes the top spot this year with Queen of Tears ranked #1 in the trending searches, while a more poignant film, How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, is the most searched for movie in Singapore.
