Changi Nexus One officially opens, heightening Singapore’s air cargo capacity

Changi Airport Group (CAG) today announced the opening of Changi Nexus One, a refurbished air logistics facility inside Changi Airfreight Centre.

The opening of this facility is targeted at addressing the special airfreight needs of air logistics companies that require a part of their operations to be based in Singapore. The facility also helps to meet increased air logistics demand as the completion of the Changi East Industrial Zone approaches its mid-2030 timeline.

CAG said that Changi Nexus One, with its 8,000sqm warehousing space, is designed to accommodate up to two tenants. One of the two is Expeditors, regarded as the world’s 7th-largest airfreight company that saw 782,000 metric tons of air cargo handled in 2023.

CAG also added that the facility is replete with automation, smart technology, and other world-class facilities for handling air logistics. However, the announcement did not specify what technologies were employed, nor did it share how these technologies exceed or improve upon existing and conventional air logistics practices (Changi Nexus One also does not have an official online presence for us to verify its facility’s equipment at the time of publication).

That said, Changi Nexus One is certified Green Mark Platinum and Green Mark Platinum Positive Energy Building by Singapore's Building and Construction Authority (BCA). This means that Changi Nexus One has "more than 60% energy savings" and generates more renewable energy than it consumes, thanks to its ongoing installation of solar PV panels across Cargo Agent Buildings. Additionally, more solar panels will be added to Changi Nexus One by Q1 2025.
