Updated BMW iX arrives for folks who want a more refined and luxurious electric SUV

Everything about the BMW iX is big. Its size, power, battery capacity, range, and, yup, its price tag.

BMW’s facelifted iX has arrived on our shores. If you are confused about BMW’s lineup, the iX is the company’s mid-size battery-electric SUV. In other words, it’s a large and expensive car.

As far as facelifts go, the updates are mostly modest but noticeable. The kidney grilles are shaped differently and now is outlined by a strip of LED that glows brightly at night. There are also changes to the headlights and bumpers to differentiate it from the model it replaces.

Two trims will be offered: Sport and M Sport. The former is the more restrained of the two, while the latter looks more aggressive and has larger 21-inch M Sport wheels.

To my eyes, the aesthetic updates are well-considered. It’s still unmistakably an iX, but if you know what you are looking at, you can tell instantly that it’s the newer facelift version.

There are updates in the cabin too, the most notable being that the infotainment system now runs BMW’s latest OS 8.5. Some highlights of this new operating system include video streaming and in-car gaming—nifty features to have while you wait for it to charge.

Speaking of charge, the iX will only be available with the xDrive45 powertrain and that means you get 402hp and 700nm of torque. That’s enough for it to get from a standstill to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds. Considering the iX weighs over 2,500kg, that’s quite an achievement.

For now, there are no plans to offer the more powerful xDrive60 and M70 xDrive variants in Singapore. The battery capacity is 94.8kWh, which BMW claims is enough for the iX to cover up to 602km (WLTP).

Availability and pricing

The BMW iX is available now with prices starting at S$451,888 for the Sport trim version and S$473,888 for the one with the M Sport package. Prices include COE.

Each purchase also entitles customers to a home charging package, which gets you a BMW wall charger with complimentary installation, or a public charging package with Shell recharge. The public charging package lets you charge for free up to three years (up to 10,000kWh and no monthly cap) at Shell Recharge stations.

From now until 8 June, readers can visit the iX at The Lawn at New Bahru.
