Apple's second-generation AirTag could arrive next year.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says the next generation AirTag is codenamed B589 and scheduled to launch "around the middle of next year".
Apple is reportedly conducting test runs with Asian suppliers. The second-generation AirTag is expected to come with a better chip for improved location tracking.
The first-generation AirTag launched three years ago. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy radio and a U1 ultra-wideband (UWB) chip to communicate its location to the paired iPhone via Find My app.
In our review of the Apple AirTag, we found it to be compact, light, and competitively priced. However, the polished metal cover scuffs and scratches easily. Still, it's handily the best Bluetooth tracker you can buy if you are an iPhone owner.
