Olympus has announced the key specs for the OM-D E-M1 Mark II flagship camera. The camera will be released later this year, and it’s been four years in the making.

The key specs:

  • 20MP resolution
  • Up to 18fps, in raw, with AF/AE
  • Up to 60fps, in raw, with AF/AE locked to the first frame
  • Improved dynamic range and noise performance
  • 121 cross-type phase detect AF points on the image sensor, spread across a wider area
  • Dual quad core processors with four CPU cores and four image processing cores
  • 5-axis image stabilization up to 5.5 stops of compensation
  • 5-axis Sync IS for up to 6.5 stops of compensation when paired with the new M.Zuiko 12-100mm f/4 IS Pro lens
  • 4K video capture at up to 236mbps
  • 37% higher battery capacity compared to E-M1
  • Dual SD card slots
  • Bigger grip (it’s massive)
  • Weather-sealed to be dust-proof, splash-proof, and freeze—proof

The ‘Dual Fast AF’ system, which first appeared on the E-M1, will automatically choose between contrast and phase detection AF to better focus on the subject. Olympus says that continuous AF tracking has been “dramatically improved” with a new subject tracking algorithm.

The E-M1 Mark II will introduce a ‘Pro Capture’ mode that starts shooting when you half depress the shutter, and it keeps the last 14 shots before you fully press the shutter.

Olympus’ High-Res Shot mode, introduced in the E-M5 II, is also on the E-M1 Mark II. Whereas subjects shot with the E-M5 II had to be perfectly still to create the stitched 50MP high-resolution image, the E-M1 Mark II will apparently be able to suppress image blur due to subject movement, which makes it possible to use High-Res mode “in a wide variety of shooting conditions, such as gently-blowing grass, tree leaves, or ocean waves.”
