The Sony Handycam FDR-AXP55 4K camcorder has a 20x optical zoom lens and built-in projector

It's also the first Handycam to use an enhanced version of Sony’s Balance Optical SteadyShot 5-axis image stabilization system.

At CES 2016, Sony has announced the Handycam FDR-AXP55, its 2016 flagship 4K camcorder.

Using a new Exmor R CMOS sensor with 1.6x bigger pixel size (that’s versus last year’s FDR-AXP33/FDR-AX33), the FDR-AXP55 is expected to have even better low light performance.

Also new is the Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens that has a 20x optical zoom range and a 30x Clear Image Zoom feature.

The FDR-AXP55 is also the first Handycam with an enhanced version of Sony’s own Balance Optical SteadyShot, a 5-axis image stabilization system, with a new Intelligent Active mode that compensates for camera shake even when you’re running.

Other features of the FDR-AXP55 include a new microphone structure that collects sound from five directions, full HD 100fps high-speed recording for post-production editing of slow-mo movies, and a built-in 50-lumen projector with external input. Pro users will also be glad to find a manual ring and custom function button, and EVF, as well as Time Code and User Bit options. Those interested can find more details here.

The new FDR-AXP55 will go on sale in selected Asia Pacific countries from March 2016.
