It took five years, but Nikon finally came up with a new entry-level APS-C mirrorless camera. This is the new Z50II – the successor to the Z50.

The Z50II might be using the same 20.9-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor as its predecessor, but it uses the latest EXPEED 7 image processor found in its professional Z8 and Z9 models.

Thanks to EXPEED 7, the Z50II has nine subject detection options, including Cars, Birds, Trains and Airplanes, compared to three (People, Cats and Dogs) in the original Z50

With the new image processor, the Z50II also supports high-resolution 4K UHD video recording with N-Log video support. In addition, the Z50II can shoot with autofocus at up to 30fps – up from the 11fps of the Z50.

It is also the first Z series camera to feature Product Review mode, which focuses on objects in the foreground. This is great for vloggers who might want to show a product, without worrying the AF will target their faces instead.

Furthermore, the Z50II comes with a new Picture Control button that allows users to access a wide range of colour profiles quickly – not unlike Fujifilm's Film Simulations. Thus, it allows you to quickly adjust your photos to your liking. The Z50II comes with 31 colour profiles, and more can be downloaded.

Another improved feature is the 2.36-million-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) of Z50II, which is almost twice as bright as that of its predecessor. A bright EVF is always welcomed, as it allows users to see better and easier to compose their photos. Users can also use Z50II’s 3.2-inch, 1.04-million-dot fully-articulated display to frame their selfies.

At the same time, Nikon also launched the MC-DC3 remote cord that is compatible with Z50II. Using a remote cord minimises camera shake with a tripod and is particularly handy for long-exposure shots.
