Nikon announces the launch of the new AF-S NIKKOR 300mm F/4E PF ED VR and the new AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200MM F4-5.6G ED VR II

Nikon has just announced the launch of a new lightweight 300mm F/4 full-frame lens, and a new 55-200 zoom lens for DX users at CES 2015.

 AF-S NIKKOR 300mm F/4E PF ED VR

The latest addition to the Nikkor line-up of FX-format lenses, the AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR is the first Nikkor lens to incorporate Nikon’s Phase Fresnel (PF) lens element, resulting in remarkable weight savings. Where most lenses at this focal length weigh about a kilogram, this lens weighs only 755g, and incorporates a Vibration Reduction (VR) system that allows you to compensate for up to 4.5 stops of light.

ED glass elements and Nano Crystal Coating work perfectly with the PF element to minimize chromatic aberration and ghosting, while a highly durable fluoride coating on the lens front repels dust, water droplets, grease or dirt, making it easy to clean.

The large f/4 aperture allows for striking bokeh effects as well as excellent lowlight performance, while a new Sport VR mode helps to capture subjects that are moving quickly and unpredictably, like athletes. Nikkor’s Silent Wave Motor has also been incorporated into this lens for swift, quiet autofocusing, making it handy even for nocturnal photography.

AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200MM F4-5.6G ED VR II

The AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200MM F4-5.6G ED VR II covers an equivalent focal length of 82.5-300mm in 35mm format, but weighs only 300g while being only 83mm long (when lens is retracted), making it an incredibly portable lens that affords you excellent contrast and sharpness for both photo and video thanks to the inclusion of an Extra-low Dispersion glass element.

Nikon is dubbing this portable telephoto zoom lens the “perfect companion for DX-format DSLRs”, as the wide zoom range empowers you to get excellent images from portraits to landscapes and nature. Vibration Reduction allows you to minimize blur from camera shake by overeager or tired hands, providing the equivalent effect of shooting 4.0 stops faster, while Silent Wave Motor technology is also implemented in this lens, allowing for fast, quiet and accurate focusing.

Both lenses will be available in February 2015, but pricing has yet to be announced.
