Snap is the latest instant camera from the company Polaroid. This 10-megapixel camera comes with an integrated Zero Ink printer, allowing you to print captured images instantly. Snap is able to capture the next image while the current one is still printing. The trick behind the printing technology is the use of Zink paper, which is made from an “advanced composite material embedded with cyan, yellow and magenta dye crystals and with a protective polymer overcoat.” At the start, the crystals are colorless and the Zink paper resemble “regular white photo paper.” The Zink paper measures 2- by 3-inch, and it even has an adhesive rear so that it can function as a sticker.

The Zero Ink printer uses heat to activate the dye crystals and colorize them. After this chemical process, images are reproduced on the Zink paper; these print outs are smudge-proof and they last a long time. Snap is able to shoot in different capture modes; color, black and white, and vintage Polaroid photo inspired. The Zink printing technology isn't new as we had already first seen it at CES 2012.

The Snap has a microSD slot that supports up to a maximum capacity of 32GB. It allows for easy transfer to another device for storage and social media sharing. In terms of appearance, the Snap boasts of postmodernism influences, complete with minimalist design features. According to Polaroid, Snap is positioned as a “modern twist” on its classic instant cameras, with an attractive price point of US$99. Available in four different colors; red, white, black and blue, Snap is expected to be on retail shelves by the fourth quarter of this year.
