Lexar, the popular flash memory products maker that was acquired by Chinese company Longsys after Micron ditched it in 2017, has announced a new compact CFexpress USB 3.1 reader targeting pro photographers and videographers.

With transfer speeds of up to 1,050MB/s, the simply-named Lexar Professional CFexpress USB 3.1 Reader is designed for CFexpress Type B cards and supports USB 3.1 Gen 2. Probably in an attempt to keep the price down, the package includes a USB Type-C-to-A cable but not a Type C-to-C cable.

Priced affordably at US$50 (about S$70) and available at places such as Adorama and B&H Photo Video, the card reader works with any CFexpress Type B cards, including Lexar’s own Professional CFexpress Type B card announced in Sep last year. With capacities up to 512GB, Lexar’s newest pro-level CFexpress card boasts a top read speed of 1,750MB/s and a sustained write speed of up to 1,000MB/s.
